Identifying bias in self-reported pro-environmental behavior

چکیده
Research on pro-environmental behavior (PEB) informs social policies and interventions, so the quality of PEB measurement is critical. Self-reported measures in surveys often contain non-negligible error that can bias estimates lead to incorrect findings. Given potential presence error, we hypothesize changes way self-reported measured might systematic errors affect validity results. Study 1 (N = 951) showed priming participants with related scales like environmentalist identity did not substantively change reported (all ds ≤ 0.12). To investigate possibility overreporting without priming, 2 385) littering prevention using Unmatched Count Technique. A standard questionnaire format led much higher compared more anonymous covert condition, d 0.53, this effect appeared driven by who a stronger identity. These results may help explain some observed measures. We suggest researchers could reduce indirect questioning techniques.

Systematic Bias in Student Self - Reported Data
The study analyzes the extent to which student self-reported data are biased and what variables can predict the degree of the bias. A variable that students feel more sensitive about is compared in terms of reporting bias to other less sensitive variables. The reporting bias is significant only for the sensitive variable. The study explains the reporting bias for the sensitive variable on the b...
متن کاملOverestimation Bias in Self-reported SAT Scores
The authors analyzed self-reported SAT scores and actual SAT scores for five different samples of college students (N=650). Students overestimated their actual SAT scores by an average of 25 points (SD=81, d=0.31), with 10% under-reporting, 51% reporting accurately, and 39% over-reporting, indicating a systematic bias towards overreporting. The amount of over-reporting was greater for lower-sco...

متن کاملBias and heteroscedastic memory error in self-reported health behavior: an investigation using covariance structure analysis
BACKGROUND Frequent use of self-reports for investigating recent and past behavior in medical research requires statistical techniques capable of analyzing complex sources of bias associated with this methodology. In particular, although decreasing accuracy of recalling more distant past events is commonplace, the bias due to differential in memory errors resulting from it has rarely been model...
